Hot and cold formed steel sections

Cold Formed VS Hot Formed Steel

HOT FORMED: COLD FORMED:
Temperature used is above crystallization point Room temperature is used.
Yield strength decrease as temperature increase. Yield strength increases.
Large deformation can be repeated. Steel has a higher dimensional accuracy.
Hardness is lower than that of cold formed. Increased hardness.
Shapes can be drastically altered. Increase in the elastic limit.
Promotes diffusion. Decrease of ductility.
Higher coefficient between rolls. Coefficient between rolls is lower than with hot formed.
Heavy reduction is possible in the area of the work piece. No possibility of heavy reduction.
Not a very good surface finish. Smooth and oxide free surface finish.
Easier to produce in large quantities and to install.
Can produce any shape of any length.
